5 steps to a feel good wardrobe

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

First of all,  a wardrobe weed is essential. Throw away items with the ‘ugh’ factor. Any items that get the ‘ugh’ reaction must be assigned to charity, friends who look good in them or recycling!  Get rid of any items you haven’t worn in the last 12 months.  If you are passionately and sentimentally attached and can’t bear to be parted from them, put them away (in the attic for instance) or somewhere where you can’t see them.  If you haven’t missed them over the following 6 months, then they absolutely have to go!

Pick out the items in your wardrobe that you do like and think about why you enjoy wearing them and what it is about them that suits you.

Consider your personal style, what do you like your clothes to say about you?

Learn to understand your body shape and find cuts and fabrics that work with your bodyline and flatter you the most.

When you have done a bit of self-assessment you can start doing some research into finding the right clothes for you. Pick out the retailers with ranges that appeal to you and have the right cuts and fabrics that suit you.

Recession-proof your wardrobe today by following the above guidelines and avoid making costly mistakes when shopping.  Check out our ‘wardrobe woes to wardrobe wows’ workshop http://imagematters.ie/index.php/personal-style/  and start making your wardrobe work for you and not against you!

How is your image measuring up?

Red is for Valentines

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

They say that red is the colour of love and passion.  So many of my clients over the years say they love the colour  red, but not sure whether they can wear it.  Also, many women say that they are afraid of it!  The secret is to wear the shade and tone of red that suits your own particular colouring.  For instance, if you are a blonde blue eyed lady, you will be wearing a lovely light pinky red whereas if you are black/dark brown haired lady with dark eyes, you will be veering more towards a deep tomato red.  And yes, red haired ladies can definitely wear red – an orangey red will suit you the best.    Also,  remember red is a very memorable colour, so ideally, you don’t want to be depending on wearing it every day!  On the other hand, in a networking or meeting situation, if you want to be remembered, you will really stand out in your red against all the neutral colours of black, brown, navy and grey!    The same guides apply for the shade of lipstick/lipgloss you wear.  To celebrate Valentines Day, we are offering some special discounts – email frances@imagematters.ie for further details.  Have fun!
